A better reply starts
with a better question.

“What size should I buy?” Give your team a useful starting point for size-and-fit questions, using your own product knowledge and an AI tool your business approves.

One practical prompt. A worked example. No email or sign-up needed.

Teach. Try. Check. Adapt.

Try it with a fictional enquiry.

Copy the prompt into your approved AI chat, then replace the bracketed inputs. Start with the fictional facts below. If a fact is missing, write “unknown”.

1. Copy your prompt

You can also select and copy the text manually. This page does not send anything to an AI service.

2. Add these practice facts

Fictional shop: Willow & Thread.
Voice: warm, clear and helpful.

Customer message: “I like your linen shirt. What size should I buy?”

  • Usual size and preferred fit: unknown.
  • Product size guide: not supplied for this exercise.
  • Confirmed fit and fabric notes: unknown.

With these facts, the useful next step is to ask a question. There is not enough evidence to recommend a size.

Illustrative customer reply

“Thanks for your interest in the linen shirt. What size do you usually wear, and do you prefer a snug fit or a little more room?”

Example wording, not a guaranteed AI result. The internal checks should also identify the missing product guide and fit notes.

3. Check the draft together

  • Did it ask only for information that was missing?
  • Did it avoid guessing a size or guaranteeing the fit?
  • Does the wording sound like your shop?
  • Before suggesting a size, have you checked the actual product guide, sizing system and relevant measurements?

For real enquiries, follow your business’s AI and data rules. Use only necessary information in an approved tool. A person reviews and sends the reply.

4. Change one thing

Add this to the fictional customer message:

“I usually wear a UK 12 and prefer a loose fit.”

Run it again. Does the draft avoid asking the same questions? Does it flag the missing size guide, rather than automatically recommend a 14?

Notice what changed. Save the instructions that help your team produce a better reply.
